Overall good, but has some issues

I'd like to preface this review and state that I generally like Slack, I use it daily, it's an okay software for work-related fast communications. But I'd like to see it improved. 1. Notifications. They sometimes don't arrive at all or they come way too late and I don't know that I've been tagged and something requires my attention. 2. Unexpected log-outs. So annoying! 3. I don't like that there are limited slots in "direct chatrooms" folder and chats disappear from there. Please let it keep all of the people I've been talking to. It annoys me that I have to use search.

    🏁 Competitors: Telegram
👍 Pros:    Understandable and convenient|Unlimited message history|File sharing
    👎 Cons:    Notifications|Chat visibility
  8.
    Great workplace

I like how it's organised and sorted, however, the layout is a bit complex and it takes a bit to get used to it. The notifications are also kinda slow.

Summary of the public mentions of Slack

Summary of Public Opinion on Slack

Slack, a cloud-based collaboration platform, has consistently been recognized for its effectiveness in enhancing team communication and productivity. It occupies a prominent position in the communication, group chat, and project management domains, often cited alongside competitors such as Microsoft Teams, Telegram, and Discord. The public perception of Slack, derived from various recent mentions and industry reviews, underscores several key points:

  1. Feature-Rich Platform: Slack is lauded for its plethora of features that cater to dynamic team needs. Channels, a critical feature, allow teams to create dedicated spaces for project-specific or topic-centric discussions. This organizational capacity extends to capabilities for threaded messaging, a feature that users have particularly missed in some competing platforms like Mattermost.

  2. Integration and Customizability: A standout aspect of Slack is its integration capability with hundreds of third-party applications. This extensibility ensures that users can tailor their Slack experience to meet unique organizational needs, integrating seamlessly with other popular tools like Jira, ButterCMS, and various AI platforms.

  3. Accessibility and Usability: Slack’s design offers user-friendly interfaces accessible through mobile, desktop, and web applications. This accessibility is crucial for remote teams, facilitating seamless communication regardless of the device used. Moreover, Slack's structure—part chat software, part forum—supports organized communication via channels and threads, making it highly adaptable to different communication styles.

  4. Comparison with Competitors: While Microsoft Teams has gained significant market traction, partly due to its bundling with Office 365, Slack maintains a competitive edge with its independent and robust feature set. Discussions comparing Slack to other tools often highlight these strengths, though Slack's video call functionality in its free plan is identified as limiting in terms of participant numbers.

  5. Alternative Considerations: With the abundant options in the market, many users explore alternatives, each bringing unique offerings to the table. For example, Clariti introduces a more holistic communication approach by linking chats, emails, and more into topic-centric "Folders." Similarly, Discord is noted for its similarity to Slack in user interface, appealing to users familiar with multi-channel communication environments.

  6. Community and Open Source Engagement: Slack is particularly valued for community building. Workshops and open source projects recognize Slack as a tool that fosters effective communication, engagement, and collaboration, contributing to sustainable community development.

  7. Criticism and Limitations: Some critique does exist regarding Slack's chat-focused communication paradigm, which may not suit all organizational needs, and its free tier limitations, particularly regarding video calls. However, its versatility in other areas often mitigates these concerns.

In conclusion, Slack’s position as a leading communication tool is well-founded, characterized by its robust feature set, integration capability, and user-friendly design. While competition is fierce, Slack's continuous innovation keeps it at the forefront in serving diverse organizational communication needs.
